Cheap Nights Out in Boston

Where to have fun without breaking the bank.

Having fun in Boston does not require expensive venues or bottle service. Most of the best nights happen at neighborhood bars with affordable drinks, no cover charges, and an actual local crowd. This guide covers where to go to have a great time on a budget.

Cheap Game Bars

The Sevens Ale House in Beacon Hill and Regal Beagle in Brookline are neighborhood bars where you can throw darts or play pool for minimal investment. A few dollars in darts, cheap beer or well drinks, and you have a full night. No cover charge, no pretense.

Free or Low-Cover Trivia

Most trivia nights are free to enter—you just buy drinks. The Sevens, Regal Beagle, and Southie Bowl run trivia without entry fees. Some have small prizes for winners. If you show up as a solo player willing to join a team, the experience is even cheaper.

Happy Hour Strategy

Most bars run happy hours 4–7pm weekdays with discounted drinks. Swing by before dinner, grab two dollar specials, and hit the darts or pool table. You can have a solid two hours for $20 or less, including a drink or two.

Weeknight vs Weekend Pricing

Weeknights are universally cheaper than weekends. No cover charges, lower drink prices, and less crowding. Tuesday trivia or Wednesday darts night is the move if budget matters.
